Perhentian Island is situated about 30-45 minutes fast boat transfer from Kuala Besut, Terengganu, Malaysia. The island consists of Pulau Besar(Big Island) & Pulau Kecil(Small Island). Pulau besar is more for a relaxing environment where the Marine Park is also situated there while Pulau Kecil is more known by both locals and foreigners for a more happening and entertaining environment especially on Long Beach. The fishing village is also located on the small island. Different types of accommodations can be found here catering to all tourist whether you are looking for a high end/luxurious accommodation to backpackers lodgings. Perhentian Island is open mostly by end of february and closes around end of october due to the monsoon season. July and august will be their peak season where everyone from around the world comes here. So it is advisable to book your rooms way ahead!

Getting here :
Bus – From Kuala Lumpur, Klang or Shah Alam, you can take a direct express that arrive just in Kuala Besut, near the jetty to Perhentians. Take Mahligai Express or Perdana Express or Mutiara Express. From the other towns usually they stop at Jerteh town, about 20-30 minutes drive to Kuala Besut. Taxi fare from Jerteh to Kuala Besut will be around RM18-20 / taxi. Flight – Pick your flight to arrive in Kota Bharu Airport rather than Kuala Terengganu Airport as it is nearer, about one hour ++ journey while K.Terengganu takes around 2++ hours to Kuala Besut.
Transfers to other destinations : From Kuala Besut, there are also van/bus transfers to other destinations like Taman Negara, Cameron Highlands, Penang. Rates – Taman Negara RM80.00 / person one way, Cameron Highlands RM70.00 / person one way, Penang RM85.00 / person one way
